Update:tutu

Thanks to all the participants and volunteers for their support and enthusiasm; the event was a success despite the wet weather. We surpassed our goal of $8500 for the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation.

Congratulations to Barb Michno, from the Crazy Wet team, who won the 50/50 draw.

Description:

In partnership with the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation & The Pink Sensations Alkame is proud to host the 1st annual Paddle for a Purpose – A dragon boat paddling celebration

A fun filled non competitive paddle around Frenchman’s Bay with entertainment & information to raise money for the support of breast cancer research.

Dragon Boat is a 2000 year old sport featuring teams of 22 racers paddling in unison, drums beating and exhilarating scenes for spectators.

In 1995 Dr. Don Mckenzie launched Abreast in a Boat – the first ever Breast Cancer Survivor dragon boat crew in Vancouver, Canada.  The connection between Breast Cancer Survivors and dragon boat racing has now grown to become a worldwide phenomenon and truly an elixir of life for Breast Cancer Survivors.

Since 1995 it has become indisputable that dragon boat racing produces dramatic health benefits for Breast Cancer Survivors both physically and emotionally.

“The effect has been so profound on their emotions and so positive globally. The support they get from fellow cancer patients, that has been the miracle of the whole project. The lymphedema was the start. Now it's a small part of it."
— Dr. Don Mckenzie, Vancouver

Everyone is welcome – no previous experience is required
