Dragon Boat Canada Steering Certification Program

The Steering Accreditation course is held in-person in Pickering, Ontario and includes both an in-class and on-water portion.

Alkame Coaching Services is pleased to work with Dragon Boat Canada to offer coaching, officiating and steering certification courses. We believe that establishing a strong base of intellectual infrastructure will enhance dragon boat racing's ability to experience healthy grassroots development. We are proud to be a part of the foundation of sport development.

We have developed a customized course delivery program that emphasizes skill development, real-life scenarios, practical application and maximum peer and instructor interaction.

Scott Murray

Scott has worked in the Toronto dragon boat industry for: Pickering Dragon Boat Club, Great White North Communications, Dunbarton High School, West Rouge Canoe Club, Royal Bank of Canada, Markham Stouffville Hospital and XM Satellite Radio (to name a few).

He is the current President of Dragon Boat Canada, and the Senior A National Team coach. Scott has coached, organized and paddled with crews that have competed internationally in: Italy, South Africa, China, Germany, Poland, Toronto and Australia.

His passion for sport is the emphasis for participation in this program. Scott has a desire to see broad-based growth and development of dragon boat racing through properly-trained coaches, grassroots and youth development programs.

This course includes both in-class and on-water instruction
$150.00 + HST

Upon completion of this course, participants will need to fulfill these additional requirements in order to be deemed Officially Certified by Dragon Boat Canada:

  1. Be deemed "Ready to Race", complete your first race at a regatta, and notify your instructor (Scott Murray)
  2. Successfully complete your Pleasure Craft Operators License (Boater Exam)
  3. Successfully complete your basic/standard First Aid (any First Aid provider)
  4. Successfully complete the online course, Safe Sport (Safe Sport)
